3rd SUSTAIN-CE Pilot Training Academy, co-organized by İYTE and YAŞAR University, in Urla, Izmir, Turkey

This November, from Wednesday the 9th until Friday the 11th SUSTAIN-CE project organizes the 3rd Pilot Training Academy on the thematics:

“FUNDAMENTALS OF SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE & CIRCULAR ECONOMY”
and
“STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD”

If you are interested and want to learn more about the fundamentals of Sustainable Infrastructures and Circular Economy, the pillars of Sustainability and how Circular Economy works as a sustainability enabler, the principles of sustainable design and construction, sustainable and resilient structural design, structural design with secondary materials, adaptable structural design and structural systems, as well as to follow Key Notes experts discussing how Green Building and Materials are in today’s world, Sustainable Cities and Infrastructures and Innovative Techniques for Seismic Design of Structures, we invite you to join us in the 3rd SUSTAIN-CE Training Academy co-organized by İYTE and YAŞAR University, in Urla, Izmir!

Participation is free of charge. However, the Academy will not provide reimbursements for travel and hotel costs. The Academy will provide free lunch to participants and free transportation from the Yaşar University campus to the İYTE campus (venue).

The 4th SUSTAIN-CE Transnational Project Meeting

22nd – 23rd of June 2022

The 4th SUSTAIN-CE  Transnational Project Meeting was successfully completed in Thessaloniki, Greece on the 22nd and 23rd of June 2022, organised by AUTh and with the participation of all six partners; Yaşar University, Izmir Institute of Technology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the South East European Research Center, ISQ and FOLKART. Partners discussed the project results up to now, evaluating the progress of the Virtual Learning Environment that will support the designed curriculum on Sustainability and Circular Economy and planned the implementation of the 3rd Academy that will take place in Urla, Turkey, co-organised by IYTE and YASAR University, in November!

 

 

 

2nd Pilot Training Academy, Thessaloniki, Greece

22nd – 24th of June 2022

SUSTAIN-CE 2nd Pilot Training Academy was successfully organised by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), in Thessaloniki, Greece from the 22nd to the 24th of June 2022. The Academy focused on Sustainability & Circular Economy in Materials and Buildings, as well as on the role of Geotechnical Engineering in a Sustainable World.

The Vice Rector of AUTh, Prof. Stratos Stylianidis, opened the 2nd Academy welcoming experts from all six partner organizations together with more than 20 trainees that followed the training and participated in very interesting presentations and case study works.

The presentations of the first day of the Academy focused on Sustainability & Circular Economy in Materials and Buildings and were delivered by:  Prof. Maria Stefanidou and Dr. Alexandros Liapis from AUTh and Assoc. Prof. İzzet Özdemir from IYTE.

The presentations of the second day focused on Sustainability and Geotechnical Engineering and were delivered by Prof. Nurhan Ecemiş from IYTE, Assoc. Prof. Dimitris Pitilakis from AUTh, and Dr. Katerina Stamou from AUTh.

SUSTAIN-CE Project 3rd Newsletter

The 3rd newsletter is launched providing detailed information about the 1st SUSTAIN-CE Pilot Training Academy that took place in Lisbon, Portugal on the topics of Sustainable Water Resources Engineering and Sustainable Transportation Engineering, as well as the next project events and the upcoming 2nd SUSTAIN-CE Pilot Training Academy that will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece!

SUSTAIN-CE project will develop an undergraduate civil engineering curriculum that covers sustainable infrastructure design to ensure graduates have the ability to apply concepts and principles of sustainability to the solution of complex civil engineering projects. In order to achieve this objective, SUSTAIN-CE will lead to and test innovative curricula in Turkey, Greece, and Portugal by blending context-specific driven skill gap mitigation with globally benchmarked practices in true co-creation with industry, industry associations, policymakers, end-users, and academia.

Sustain-CE Multiplier Event, Thessaloniki, Greece

21st of June 2022

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) organised successfully on the 21st of June 2022, in Thessaloniki, the second Multiplier Event of SUSTAIN-CE engaging multiple stakeholders from industry, governmental organizations, associations and academia, in an open discussion on circular economy and sustainable infrastructure design applications!

Participants representing the quadruple-helix stakeholders together with academics and students of AUTh discussed applications of sustainable infrastructure design, followed presentations of case studies on circular economy and sustainability and were informed about the up-to-date results of the SUSTAIN-CE project.

The project and its aims, as well as its expected results, regarding the new civil engineering curriculum that covers sustainable design and circular economy concepts, as well as the Virtual Learning Environment that will support the open and distance learning on sustainability and circular economy, of future engineers, were presented.

Participants were also able to attend presentations on:

  • “Opportunities offered towards Circular Economy in the Region of Central Macedonia” by Mr. Paris Bilias from the Region of Central Macedonia,
  • “Opening the way for zero waste through Circular Economy”, by Mr. Michalis Geranis from the Regional Solid Waste Management Agencies of Central Macedonia
  • “Connecting the industry with universities towards Sustainability and Circular Economy” by Dr. Christos Ginis, President of Euroco SA & Member of the Board of the Association of Industries of Northern Greece,
  • “The experience of Kavala in the URGE project: Circular building cities network”, by Mrs. Io Chatzivaryti from the Municipality of Kavala, and
  • “Accredited study courses for introduction to circular economy: The experience from Riga, Latvia” by Mrs Nika Katowica and Mrs. Ieva Kalnina from URGE project.

The meeting ended after round table discussions with stakeholders.

SUSTAIN-CE 1st Pilot Training Academy

15th – 17th of March 2022

The SUSTAIN-CE 1st Pilot Training Academy was successfully organised by ISQ, in Lisbon, Portugal from 15th to the 17th of March 2022. Experts from all partners followed the training and participated in very interesting lectures related to the two thematics of the Academy; Sustainability and Water Resources Engineering & Sustainability and Circular Economy in Transportation Engineering; delivered by Assoc.Prof. Mir Jafar Sadegh Safari, Dr. Tolga Ercan, Prof. Sotiris Theofanis and Assoc.Prof Volkan Emre Uz.

Special thanks to our Key keynote speakers,  Prof. Helena Ramos for her excellent presentation on the Modern Challenges in Water Sustainability, and Prof. Maria-Poulia Boile for her excellent presentation on the Prospects and Challenges of Greening and Circular Economy Practices in the Port Sector.

The 3rd SUSTAIN-CE Transnational Project Meeting

15th-16th of March 2022

The 3rd SUSTAIN-CE  Transnational Project Meeting was successfully completed in Lisbon on the 15th and 16th of March 2022, organised by ISQ and with the participation of all partners; Yaşar University, Izmir Institute of Technology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the South East European Research Center and FOLKART. Partners discussed the progress and the project results up to now! Our project is halfway and we are all very excited to continue working on the next deliverables!

 

Integration of Sustainable Design and Circular Economy Concepts in Civil Engineering Curricula (SUSTAIN – CE)

ANNOUNCING the 1st SUSTAIN-CE Pilot Training Academy

The 1st SUSTAIN-CE Pilot Training Academy will be organized by ISQ in Lisbon, Portugal from the 15th – 17th of March 2022 on the topics of Sustainable Water Resources Engineering and Sustainable Transportation Systems.

The main aim of the Academy is two-fold;

  • to test the methodology and tools developed for implementing the SUSTAIN-CE pilot Academies,
  • to test with trainees the newly developed curriculum primarily on, but not limited to, the thematics of Water Resources and Transportation Engineering.

The guidelines and methodology, introduced in the Train-the-Trainers Lab, will be used in a blended approach that includes theoretical and hands-on training.

Headlines of the Academy will be summarized as;

  • Concepts of SD/CE in a Global Environment
  • New designed Curriculum integrating CE/SE Concepts
  • Presentations by experts on the new Curriculum based on SD/CE concepts in Water Resources Engineering
  • Problem definition and discussion on alternative approaches
  • Designing with SD/CE concepts in Water Resources Engineering using specific approaches
  • Group presentations on Water Resources Engineering design projects
  • Presentations by Experts on the new Curriculum based on SD/CE concepts in Transportation Engineering
  • Designing with SD/CE concepts in Transportation Engineering using specific Approaches
  • Group Presentations on Transportation Engineering design projects

SUSTAIN-CE Project 2nd Newsletter

The 2nd Newsletter of SUSTAIN-CE Erasmus+ KA2 Strategic Partnership project- is published!
This issue will provide information about the project activities so far and the planning and organization of the first Pilot Training Academy!

The first SUSTAIN-CE Pilot Training Academy will be organized by ISQ in Lisbon, Portugal from 15-17 March of 2022 on the topics of Sustainable Water Resources Engineering and Sustainable Transportation Engineering.

In parallel with the 1st Academy in Lisbon, a workshop open to all local stakeholders and the participating partners will be organised on the 18th of March 2022.
