Sustain-CE Multiplier Event, Thessaloniki, Greece

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) organised successfully on the 21st of June 2022, in Thessaloniki, the second Multiplier Event of SUSTAIN-CE engaging multiple stakeholders from industry, governmental organizations, associations and academia, in an open discussion on circular economy and sustainable infrastructure design applications!

Participants representing the quadruple-helix stakeholders together with academics and students of AUTh discussed applications of sustainable infrastructure design, followed presentations of case studies on circular economy and sustainability and were informed about the up-to-date results of the SUSTAIN-CE project.

The project and its aims, as well as its expected results, regarding the new civil engineering curriculum that covers sustainable design and circular economy concepts, as well as the Virtual Learning Environment that will support the open and distance learning on sustainability and circular economy, of future engineers, were presented.

Participants were also able to attend presentations on:

  • “Opportunities offered towards Circular Economy in the Region of Central Macedonia” by Mr. Paris Bilias from the Region of Central Macedonia,
  • “Opening the way for zero waste through Circular Economy”, by Mr. Michalis Geranis from the Regional Solid Waste Management Agencies of Central Macedonia
  • “Connecting the industry with universities towards Sustainability and Circular Economy” by Dr. Christos Ginis, President of Euroco SA & Member of the Board of the Association of Industries of Northern Greece,
  • “The experience of Kavala in the URGE project: Circular building cities network”, by Mrs. Io Chatzivaryti from the Municipality of Kavala, and
  • “Accredited study courses for introduction to circular economy: The experience from Riga, Latvia” by Mrs Nika Katowica and Mrs. Ieva Kalnina from URGE project.

The meeting ended after round table discussions with stakeholders.
